What is scientific consensus?
HC: The surprising thing for somebody who comes from the history book or schoolbook version of science is that scientific consensus turns out to be a lot like other kinds of consensus. Of course, you have theories and evidence. But at the heart of it there’s usually a point where decisions are made in a much more commonsensical or philosophical way.

Who is that little bugger in your head? You know who I’m talking about. The little guy who tells you you’re not talented. The bastard who spits in your face and reminds you that you’ll never make anything of yourself. Some other person has done what you want to do and they did it better. Surely if you put yourself out there people will think you suck. Whoever or whatever that...

Irish coffee
= Columbian roast + splash of Jameson
Finally. I’ve been wanting to drink this concoction for a while now, but I haven’t seen it any of the local establishments I frequent. It’s pretty tasty. Jameson isn’t as smooth as I hoped though. I had a bottle of Famous Grouse before this, and that was a bit smoother (also a bit sweeter though).

A horror movie, if I’ve ever seen one. Freaked the shit out of me. The torture was so brutal - and unavoidable - that I had to shut it off several times.
Like watching two people be dismembered - over the span of 119 minutes.
3:26 pm: Jameson time
Sipping on Jameson, staring at the internet, trying to force myself to relax because I actually do not have anything to do on this Monday afternoon. I didn’t have anything to do over the weekend either… but I was missing the Jameson. My PhD research is on hold for a few days (just waiting for samples/emails/software). And I could try to provide a childish sense of import to my life by...
