First thing I drink in the morning: a glass of warm water mixed with a tsp of (really raw) honey, and a squeeze of lemon if I have it.

It’s an Ayurvedic recommendation to wake both you and your digestion up. I think the effect has more to do with the temperature of the liquid than the fructose in it.

p.s. Similarly, I avoid cold fluids with meals (hard to do when they serve ice water everywhere). It makes a noticeable difference in how you feel.
